We're looking at wedding fashion again, but we don't want to forget the guys!  Every year, the hottest new trends in bridal fashion, wedding themes and décor generally dominate across the world of weddings, but knowing what’s the latest and greatest in grooms and groomsmen attire is essential, too!

Relaxed Tailoring

Men's suits have moved away a bit from the slim fit and today, relaxed tailoring is the way to go.  This modern fit includes wider lapels, a looser, more comfortable cut and a wider-leg, straight-cut trousers. Although still tailored, the overall look is more natural, with softer shoulders and a slightly roomier fit.

The Classic Black Tux or White Dinner Jacket

The classic black tux has absolutely been trending for at least a year now, and it's expected to continue to be the number one choice for a while longer. Almost every single wedding we posted on our blog last year, and every one so far this year, featured grooms and groomsmen in classic black tuxedos. The biggest reason for this is the current surge in popularity of ultra-formal, black tie wedding events.

And trending along this same line is another very formal look, the white dinner jacket, which couldn't be any more perfect for formal, warm-weather tented weddings. Many spring, summer and early fall grooms in black tuxedo jackets switch to the white jacket for the reception. Michael distinguished himself from his party, looking so suave in his formal white dinner jacket at his Bear Brook Valley wedding event.

Ankle-Showing Loafers

Skipping the socks and slipping into ankle-showing loafers offers a more comfy and less traditional alternative to dress shoes. It's a modern look that surprises guests with a casual, comfortable element paired with an otherwise very dressy ensemble. With a full day of standing and dancing ahead, grooms and groomsmen understand the importance of keeping those feet happy while looking good! Thomas had the right idea, showing off his ankles in black loafers on a warm day at his Manursing Island Club wedding event.

Double-Breasted Suits

We're excited to see double-breasted suits making more wedding appearances! This is such a sharp, ultra refined look with distinct vintage charm. It's wonderfully flattering on most men, too! Peak lapels and suspenders complete the look perfectly. Check out Steve's fantastic double-breasted suit worn as he and Annie were married and celebrated their reception at Deerfield Golf Club.

Mismatched Jacket & Pants

Grooms and groomsmen wanting a light and informal vibe are embracing the look of mismatched jacket and pants. Usually the suit jacket and pants are in the same color family, just in different shades, with the pants often featuring the darker tone. But the opposite looks fantastic, too! Take a look at Noble's fabulous mismatched look for his rustic chic Westhampton Country Club wedding.

Monochrome

One can't overlook the monochrome suit! In this trend, only one color is chosen and worn entirely in the same shade (including the dress shirt), a hue complimenting the wedding theme colors. It's certainly a bold look, and a sensational choice for a modern, minimalist wedding event. Joey and his groomsmen in their all-black suits looked absolutely amazing!

Earth Tones

Earth tones are also hugely popular for today's weddings, and fit so wonderfully within more casual events. Olive green, light tan, warm brown and rust go hand in hand with outdoor, farmhouse or rustic chic barn weddings. And the best part is that these suits can easily be worn beyond the wedding day! For a great example, see Matthew and his wedding party sporting summery tan suits at his Bradford Estate wedding event.

Mixed & Matched Party

We're sure mixing and matching within the party will always be on trend, especially for more casual and outdoor wedding events, and there’s so many ways to do it!  Some men all wear different color or style suits and others just wear different ties.  Many times, only the groom is in the different suit with the groomsmen all wearing the same ensemble.  The groom often will stand apart in a bow tie while his party sports neckties. And sometimes, the groom will wear a 3-piece suit while the groomsmen skip the vest.

Whatever is chosen, it's important that the suits are either all in the same color family (but just in different hues) or are in coordinating colors, such as blue with gray, or tan with a dusty rose or burgundy.  Also, the formality level must be the same.  Even though the groom and/or the groomsmen are mismatched, they still should appear like they belong together. To see this in action, be sure to check out Zack in his blue suit and his groomsmen in gray at his Springton Manor wedding.

Texture & Patterns

And finally, grooms and groomsmen will find lots of texture and patterns on the market now and for at least the next year. Tweed, wool, flannel and velvet fabrics will be huge for fall and winter weddings.  And suit jackets in plaids/checks are expected to be more prominent.  We'll see pastel gingham for next spring & summer and expect houndstooth, tartan or buffalo check for the fall & winter.

A few extra tips for grooms and groomsmen choosing their wedding attire:

  • First, be sure to keep the time of year, time of day and overall wedding theme colors in mind while picking your ensemble.

  • Experts also highly suggest coordinating the attire with the personalities and body types of the wedding party, too.

  • And grooms, strongly consider having your suit custom-made.  Your groomsmen are welcome to wear off-the-rack and tailored suits, but as the other half of the ‘couple of honor’, you should look and feel your absolute best in a suit made just for you!
