Straight To It // Straight Neckline Wedding Gowns

The strapless wedding gown has always been a top choice for brides. But in 2023, it will be taking on a retro look! Instead of the tried and true sweetheart neckline, brides are choosing straight or square neckline wedding gowns for the big day. This style was really hot in the 1990's and we're happy to see that it's been slowly reintroducing itself to the modern bridal gown market over the past couple of years. But this neckline fashion is not just trending in strapless gowns. All styles of wedding dresses are getting updated with straight necklines!

This neckline fashion is everywhere today due in part to the ongoing Regencycore infatuation, as brides continue to look for designs inspired by the hit Bridgerton series. Straight necklines, conspicuous decollete and empire waist silhouettes are synonymous with the beloved throwback to Regency Era fashion. And in keeping, you'll find these Regency-influenced straight necklines on gowns with puff and bishop sleeves. This aesthetic has such a stately, royal vibe that appeals to so many brides yearning to feel like a true duchess on their wedding day.

This graceful neckline also meshes perfectly with the ballet-inspired bridal trend. Silk and satin princess-silhouette gowns with straight necklines, delicate spaghetti straps and fluid, tulle skirts are just some of the elements that define the artistic "Balletcore" bridal fashion. Pair a straight neckline princess gown with a slicked back bun and ballet flats to bring out your inner ballerina!

And truly, all gowns with straight necklines portray such a classic look, dramatically heightening the elegance factor at any wedding. They will always add an additional level of grace and sophistication to a modern or traditional wedding gown bodice. And almost any bridal gown skirt compliments, from slimming sheaths to romantic princess silhouettes to puffball mini skirts.

We especially love the gorgeous straight neckline wedding gowns found in Lihi Hod's 2023 bridal collection. The Ella, Nadia and Nela are absolute show stoppers! The Nela and Nadia straight neckline dresses feature sleek, modern looks in satin with daring high slits. And the Ella gown has a romantic, light and airy design with a fitted corset and 3D lace appliqués.

And featured at BHLDN Weddings, be sure to see the Jenny by Jenny Yoo Portia Gown. This sleek, classic dress projects that lovely, minimalist look with its square neckline, subtle floral lace details and sophisticated fit and flare skirt.

Let's see a couple of our own wedding examples! Lauren's lovely wedding gown was graceful and romantic through and through. She wore an amazing strapless Lela Rose bridal gown with a straight neckline and a full, airy skirt filled with 3D floral appliqués. So spectacular and absolutely perfect for her Bonnet Island beach wedding!

And going back a few years, at her wedding at the Atrium at the Curtis Center, Jaimee wore a gorgeous straight neckline, strapless Vera Wang gown, called the Bouquet. What an apropos name for such a beautiful dress... fit for a stunning bride!
