Drop waist bridal gowns have returned for weddings in 2024 and will remain in 2025! These are those gorgeous wedding dresses with a waistline set below the natural waist, and often very subtle and barely defined.
Traditionally, the dress hugs close to the body and flares out at the hips. Lovely drop waist bridal gowns can also be similar to trumpet fit and flare silhouetted gowns. They've always been popular, but this year, they're one of the hottest wedding dresses around!
Trumpet silhouetted wedding gowns are closely fitted at the waist and then flare out at mid-thigh. Some have a conspicuous separation between the bodice and the skirt, always much lower than the waistline, and others have a very subtle flare. Both styles provide a drop waist appearance, as the bride's true waistline isn't defined.
But many other drop waist gowns that hit the runways in designer collections are much less trumpet or fit and flare in design. These beautiful gowns situate the drop waist just below the bride's natural waistline and poof out more dramatically with fuller skirts in princess and ball gown silhouettes. Think Disney's version of Cinderella in her iconic blue gown for the ball!
Take a look at Lihi Hod's Fresia from the 2024 Dream Collection with its lace corset bodice, drop waist and silky ball gown skirt. Other beautiful drop waist gowns from Lihi Hod this year include those with sleek, slim skirts and several with strapless, straight neckline bodices. Check out the lovely drop waist on Pnina Tornai's 3D floral embellished ball gown. And Danielle Frankel added several elongated, drop waist bridal gowns to her 2025 collection, including the beautiful Bex gown.
Our own gorgeous example in the two photos above are of Ann Marie and her drop waist wedding gown! She looked absolutely regal in the ball gown she wore as she married Sean at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul, and celebrated afterwards at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown.
Drop waist wedding dresses elongate the body and highlight the bride's natural curves wonderfully. They always evoke such grace and sophistication and are simply perfect for any wedding event.
