Pearls of (Wedding) Wisdom // Wedding Day Pearls
When we were looking last fall at all the wedding trends expected to be big in the new year, we discovered, without a doubt, that pearls were going to be highly a desired accessory in 2020. We were excited to see the different ways pearls would find their way into weddings once the season started. Now that the pandemic postponed most events that were scheduled for the spring and summer, we still expect that this trend will continue on through 2021, primarily as many brides will be wearing gowns and accessories they purchased for their original 2020 wedding dates.
Wedding experts predict more brides will be wearing gowns with luxe pearl embellishments and will feature these organic gems on gorgeous hair combs, headbands and barrettes. Pearls will also be prominent ornamentation on bridal handbags and shoes and will bedeck many a wedding cake. And they’ll be forever popular in traditional wedding jewelry such as earrings, bracelets and necklaces.
Designers chose some very innovative and unexpected ways to incorporate these luxurious beads in many of their currently available bridal collections. Look for head-to-toe pearl beading, pearl-adorned illusion sleeves, pearls mixed with sequins, intricate, pearl-encrusted bodices and strands of pearls draped from bare shoulders. Lela Rose’s The Morocco is a wonderful example of inventive design, featuring a gorgeous, full pearl embroidered cuff over the bodice. Almost every gown in Marchesa’s amazing Fall 2020 bridal collection included sophisticated pearl ornamentation, floral embroidery and appliqués. The Serena, Kerry and Nima are just three of THEIA’s stunning gowns featuring lovely teardrop pearls in extravagant patterns. And in Provonias’ 2021 collection, be sure to see the Lockhart, a mermaid-silhouetted gown with a deep-V neckline surrounded by pearl embroidery and the amazing high, pearl and crystal surrounded neckline of the Kerr!
Classic pearls have been a beloved staple at so many weddings we’ve filmed over the years, especially in jewelry and hair accessories. But we also remember more than a few gorgeous wedding gowns that featured pearls! We were in awe of the intricate pearl and sequin patterns on Tina’s beautiful dress. She also accessorized with lovely coordinating pearl combs in her hair.
Basia’s amazing wedding dress had wonderful beadwork all throughout, with pearl appliqués outlining the bodice of her mermaid silhouetted gown. Alicyn wore two beaded belts made lovingly by her mother on her wedding day, one featuring those lustrous pearls. And pearls hid among the sequins on the amazing strapless wedding gown that Dana wore, and she also accessorized with an elegant ring of pearls for her special day.
And to see more of those beautiful pearl accessories, be sure to view the gorgeous earrings and bracelet that Stephanie wore on her wedding day. Julianne had delicate pearls pinned perfectly into the back of her braided updo. And Kelly wore a lovely pearl necklace and earrings, and chose pearl and crystal embellished bridal shoes as well, for her wonderful Hotel du Pont wedding event.
