Beautiful ball gowns are enjoying another heyday! Their popularity right now is probably due in part to the royal wedding craze (which is also driving many other wedding trends) with its very regal, ‘princessy’ vibe. From large, layered skirts to all-out poofs, the more volume, the better! Aside from being easy in which to move and simply gorgeous, a ball gown guarantees that you’ll make a dramatic entrance on your wedding day.
We’ve already been seeing a lot more ball gowns and fuller A-line wedding dresses at weddings we’ve filmed over the past year. Ball gowns and A-line (or princess) silhouetted gowns are actually very similar, the main difference essentially being the amount of volume in the skirt. A-line skirts are fitted at the natural waistline and gradually flare out from there to the floor. Ball gowns also have a fitted bodice and waistline, but usually have a very discernible transition into the skirt, and feature more volume with a much fuller skirt. Think classic Cinderella or your favorite fairy tale princess! This silhouette is favored for more formal, grand evening wedding events and looks fabulous on almost every body type.
Very few women have other opportunities to wear a ball gown, so why not choose one for what might be the most formal and glamorous event of your lifetime? Need some inspiration? Check out Michelle’s amazing off-the-shoulder Galia Lahav ball gown in highlights of her recent wedding at Northampton Valley Country Club wedding. And Marisa wore a beautiful Isabelle Armstrong wedding dress with sweetheart bodice and a subtle ball gown silhouette at her Garden City Hotel wedding. And at one of our most favorite winter weddings at the Park Savoy Estate, Jennifer wore a gorgeous ball gown with floral lace illusion long sleeves and a full, multi-tiered skirt. So regal!
