If you follow interior design trends, you might have noticed that in the last few years, neutral tones have taken over. While still a beautiful design choice, pops of very bright colors have taken a back seat to an overall white, ivory, taupe or soft, silvery gray palette. Well, this design trend isn’t limiting itself to only home fashion and furnishings. Wedding style has picked up on neutrals in a big way in the past couple of years. And it’s easy to see why… neutrals provide a peaceful, pleasing and very classic color palette.
Shades of ivory, cream, beige and light gray are warm and inviting, while pure white and darker grays broadcast cooler, more modern and dramatic. With tones evoking such a wide range in overall feeling, it’s easy to see that neutral color palettes are a perfect fit for both glamorous, luxe weddings and with rustic, cozy or casual wedding themes. Whether you want to create an intimate and romantic event or a glittery, lavish wedding, neutrals will effortlessly fit the bill.
Neutrals really do accommodate any wedding style. Picture a farmhouse or barn chic wedding filled with whitewashed, rough hewn beams and soft creams, champagne or taupe throughout. Or an evening soirée at an upscale nightclub or ballroom with the décor all in silver and cool gray tones. Both work absolutely perfectly!
Neutrals also mix and match wonderfully, so it’s easy to create a dynamic color scheme for your wedding. Don’t hesitate to feature your bridesmaids in various shades of neutrals and your reception linens in another neutral shade altogether. Just be sure that your hues all fall within the same tone, warm or cool.
And don’t be afraid that your neutral color palette will be boring! Martha Stewart Weddings proves otherwise in their article, ‘8 Neutral and White Wedding Color Palette Ideas That Are Anything But Basic’. Neutrals, especially when featured in multiple shades, will always be elegant, refined and classic.
Olivia and Justin knew how to do neutral! Check out their wedding at Tendenza, where shades of champagne and silver were found all throughout their event. And Shannon’s beautiful bridesmaids wore long gowns in a classic light beige, reminiscent of the warm sand just across the street from Shannon and Branden’s wonderful reception at Congress Hall in Cape May.
