Course of Nature // Farm to Table Weddings
Farm to table, also known as farm to fork, is essentially a consumer practice that promotes the utilization of foods that complement seasonal availability and on purchasing from local and family farms that greater employ environmentally friendly practices. It also includes promoting local community and school gardens.
Farm to table cuisine is based on a movement that actually started decades ago to counter the overly-processed and imported foods that were taking over the market. Restaurants like Chez Panisse in Berkeley, CA set the standards for locally and sustainably-sourced, seasonal and organic ingredients. Other select restaurants followed suit, however within the last few years, the farm to table movement has seen a brand new and robust following.
In the wedding world, we’re definitely seeing that couples with a focus on conserving our environmental resources and eating healthier, whole foods are specifically looking for farm to table choices for their wedding menus. And their catering and venue choices are growing in number each year.
Delicious, healthy food obviously works with every wedding, but its inclusion is especially apropos for farmhouse, rustic, garden and other outdoor wedding events. For these “agriculturally-minded” wedding events, it’s almost expected! This choice in menu just adds to the organic, close-to-nature feel of these weddings. And the menu coordinates perfectly with seasonal, fresh flower choices and natural elements in the event décor.
Some venues even specialize or are well known for their award-winning farm to table cuisine, many of which are in the Cord 3 Films area! Ryland Inn, with their menu featuring exceptional, award winning farm to table cuisine, is a splendid example. This was one of the reasons that Dagmara and Guy chose this venue for their amazing wedding! And the Lake House Inn’s exclusive caterer, Jeffrey A. Miller, utilizes mostly local or hand cultivated, organic ingredients. You can view the Lake House Inn in the wedding highlights of Christine and Matthew and Stephanie and Brian. And the Crystal Springs Resort has joined with a local farm in Sussex, NJ to bring farm fresh produce, eggs and honey for exclusive use at the resort.
