Nothing screams “summer” like ice cream! Having an ice cream cake for your wedding is a terrific idea, especially for weddings during those dog days of summer. And you’d be hard pressed to find someone who would pass on a slice of the frozen dessert treat!
While ice cream wedding cakes are fun and delicious, they do come with one obvious challenge: they need to be kept frozen. You won’t be able to have your wedding cake on display all evening at your reception. Rather, it will need to be kept out of sight in the venue’s kitchen freezer until approximately 30 minutes before the cake cutting ceremony. That leaves a relatively short window for wedding cake photo ops!
Some couples choose to have another wedding cake made for display purposes and for those who don’t like ice cream (is there anyone?). Others have fake cakes, often made from cardboard and icing, to place on display for the reception. They do look surprisingly real! Then when it’s time to cut the cake, the fake one is rolled out and the real, ice cream cake brought in.
And don’t think for a moment that ice cream cakes can’t be as gorgeous as traditional cakes! Take a look at some examples we found on pinterest. Plus, some of your favorite ice creameries, like Ben & Jerry’s and Cold Stone Creamery, can and do create wonderful custom ice cream cakes for weddings!
Speaking of sweet, our own sweet clients Courtney and Kyle opted for a delightful ice cream cake made by Freddy Hill Farms for their wedding at Normandy Farm Hotel and Conference Center. Check it out in their wedding highlight! It was a heavenly treat and perfect for their midsummer wedding event!
