The Life of the Party // Wedding Entertainment Ideas

Camp Sacajawea Wedding photo  cavalier hotel wedding images

Another big wedding trend we’re excited to see this year is an increased focus on adding unique and varied entertainment options.  In addition to having a band or hiring a DJ to provide music and emcee services, a second or even third artist or group of artists are booked for the event.  Or a surprise performance, often by the bride or groom or a friend in the wedding party, is arranged to wow guests during the cocktail hour or reception.  After a year or so of being stuck at home binge-watching Netflix and instagramming, guests are so ready for some live entertainment!  And with an abundance of Elvis impersonators, live event painters, caricaturists and songs written and sung by our newlyweds, we already see this happening a lot at the weddings we’ve filmed recently.  Couples are simply looking to provide a more full, fun and memorable entertainment experience for their guests… and we think it’s fantastic!

Here are just a few of the many ideas for adding unique and memorable entertainment to your wedding:

  • Hire a strolling magician or illusionist, comedian, caricature artist, jugglers, belly dancers or other talented performance artists to thrill guests at your reception.  Serena and Dave chose to have the amazing fire artists, Cirque De Light, wow their guests at their wonderland wedding.   Cynthia and Dan had wonderful Polynesian dancers perform at their luau inspired wedding event.  And Melissa and Tobi had a fantastic Hora Loca, which translates to “Crazy Hour” at their fabulous reception!

  • Add a live event painter.  We wrote a while ago about these talented artists… not only do they provide a beautiful finished product to commemorate your special day, they also provide hours of entertainment for guests as they watch a blank canvas transform into a remarkable piece of art, right in front of their eyes.
  • Order interactive food or drink options.  DIY or customized food stations, like a smashed potato bar or gourmet mini grilled cheese sandwiches, always keep guests engaged and satisfied.  Roaming oyster shuckers and attendants wearing amazing champagne drink hoop skirts also serve dual purposes as food servers and entertainment that guests won’t stop talking about.

The Outside World // Outdoor Wedding Ceremonies

alpine country club wedding photos  wedding backdrop cord3films

Outdoor wedding ceremonies are inherently romantic and fresh as they’re inspired by nature itself.

With proper planning, they’re absolutely perfect for spring and fall wedding events.  And they can also be beautiful for summer weddings, provided that the ceremony isn’t long and there are options for shade and refreshments, especially in places where summers can be brutally hot and humid.  And of course, outdoor ceremonies may be the safest choice in the face of pandemics and sometimes the only approved and available option.

It’s simply awe-inspiring to say your vows with the open sky overhead, birds chirping in the distant trees and the smell of fresh cut grass or wildflowers all around!  And of course, wedding photos and video taken in lovely outdoor settings can be simply astonishing.

Keep in mind, if you choose to have an outdoor ceremony, you must Read more

To the Max // Maximalist Weddings

the merion wedding image  wedding neutrals photo  Camp Sacajawea Wedding photos  wedding jewelry

In the last few years, we’ve taken a look several times at minimalist wedding décor and wedding gown trends.  The notion of minimalism in wedding events has been a steadily growing phenomenon, one that saw a huge peak in popularity following the wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.  And minimalism remains wildly popular as today’s couples plan their upcoming weddings.

But maximalism is definitely on the rise and is quickly catching up!  At today’s weddings, we’re seeing an abundance of Read more

Show Stoppers // Unique Wedding Entertainment

VW Photo Booth  live painter photo

A typical wedding day basically possesses a double-identity.  The first half, the wedding ceremony, is an earnest, reflective event… a powerful rite honoring the union of two souls in marriage.  Then, once the ceremony has concluded, the reception portion of the big day is mostly all about having fun, celebrating, laughing and being entertained, usually with exceptional music and spirited dancing!  But some couples are adding even more excitement to their receptions than simply booking their band or DJ.  They’re including additional artists or activities for a more full entertainment experience for their wedding guests!

Here are just five of the many ideas for adding unique and memorable entertainment for your wedding: Read more

Happy 1st Anniversary! // Serena + Dave

Camp Sacajawea Wedding image  Camp Sacajawea Wedding photos

This was such an amazing wedding event!  Serena and Dave were married a year ago in a touching outdoor ceremony tailored just for them with help from Serena’s father.  Their wedding event, held at Camp Sacajawea in Newfield, NJ, was themed to Alice in Wonderland’s Down the Rabbit Hole and truly, no detail was overlooked.  Antiques were in abundance at their ultra unique wedding, which also featured a ton of steampunk details.  Their entertainment was one of a kind, including a magician, fire artists and even belly dancing by the bride herself!  Happy Anniversary to Serena and Dave!

In addition to being an event that officially joins you and your fiancé in marriage, your wedding is also a celebration of that union and a joyful gathering with all those you hold dear.  Once the ceremony has concluded, the reception portion of your big day is mostly all about having fun, celebrating, laughing and being entertained, usually with exceptional music and spirited dancing.  But some couples are adding more to their receptions than simply booking their band or DJ.  They’re including additional artists or activities for a more full entertainment experience for their wedding guests.

Down the Rabbit Hole // Serena + Dave

Wow!  We were left speechless after this wondrous wedding event! Everything about Serena and Dave’s wedding was ultra unique to say the least! Theirs was an unbelievable wedding at Camp Sacajawea in Newfield, NJ, where almost every aspect was custom made or DIY.  It was a steampunk wedding with an Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland theme.  There was fire breathing.  There was illusion.  There was belly dancing.  It was on a Tuesday.  Needless to say, it’s one that we’ll never forget!

Serena was a captivating bride.  She had two outfits that day, (including a stunning ensemble – you’ll see soon – made by her mother!) with her first wedding gown being a gorgeous, lace-covered strapless David Tutera gown with a romantic A-line silhouette.  Serena’s beautiful Victorian-inspired feathered hat was lovingly made by her mother as well, and the bridal party jewelry was handmade by Serena and her mother together.  That pretty cameo was a gift from Dave.  And speaking of Dave, he looked so sharp in his distinctly steampunk attire.  With his top hat, double-breasted vest and ascot, the Victorian inspiration was spot on.

Serena and Dave’s entire ceremony was custom made for them.  They had a gorgeous chuppah made by Savannah’s Garden, adorned top to bottom with bright flowers including roses in pinks and red, eucalyptus branches and orange and yellow butterflies.  Serena’s father officiated the outdoor ceremony, where he lovingly spoke of marriage as a maze, best traveled with a true companion.  They recited their own written vows to each other and symbolically had their hands bound to each other as they officially became husband and wife.

Wonderful photographs were taken around the camp by Blonnie Brooks, as she captured both the romance and the action. Be sure to view some of them on her Facebook page!   It was such a pleasure to work alongside her.  We loved the poses with the bridal party as they showed off the exquisite bouquets by Savannah’s Garden with their gorgeous cascading design.

Then, we were on to the indoor reception, and by doing that, we had to go “down the rabbit hole” with Serena and Dave!  Of course, no Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland themed event is complete without a tea party.  Check out the vintage plates (a mix of Serena’s grandmother’s, mother’s and found items), “Eat Me” embossed desserts, table place cards on “Drink Me” bottles and that incredible custom harlequin and striped “topsy turvy” cake by Apron Strings Dessert Boutique!  There were teapots and white string lights and faux butterflies in mason jars.  There were “This Way” and “That Way” signs and chessmen cookies.  Everywhere you turned, you were submerged in the marvelous, madcap motif!

And just when you thought the evening couldn’t get any more exciting, the belly dancing and fire show began!  Serena is an incredible belly dancer and she expertly danced for her guests in an amazing outfit made by her mother.  Everyone was enthralled!  And fire artists from Cirque De Light awed the crowd with thrilling fire breathing and spinning.  What an unbelievable show!

You would think it would be hard for the DJ to keep up with this incredible talent, but Bob Morgan Entertainment was up to the task! Their DJ services kept the festivities moving and guests on the dance floor.

Serena grew up in the Society for Creative Anachronism, a living history group that studies and recreates the arts and skills of Medieval culture, and in that society, they celebrate important events with the exclamation, “Vivat!”.  It basically means, “Congratulations”, “Cheers” and “May you Live Long” and bestows the sincerest of well wishes on the guests of honor.  Well, we have that same sentiment for Serena and Dave.  Congratulations and “Vivat”!  And in the words of Serena’s father,  “May you always live with one foot in wonderland”.
